A Froggy Day

When my children were very young they mistakenly called those mist-laden days "froggy days." Yesterday was such a day. However we were in a rush to get on the road to bring our son back to college so I did not have a chance to take photos. Although my husband had the day off and would have preferred a sunny day, I was thrilled that today's weather was almost a replay of yesterday. I wandered out and was able to capture some photos of - well, not much, because as we all know, fog obscures and reduces visibility. It was strange being out there. Fog conjures up many emotions. It is at the same time mysterious, eerie, spooky, creepy, sinister, confusing, chilling, other-worldly and magical. There are only shades of gray. I was glad to get back inside to the warmth, color and light.

Without further ado, I present to you a little bit of "A Froggy Day."

Beautiful photos. It is the same outside here. It's nice to look at the "froggy" day outside, through all the colors here in the inside. I'm staying IN!

Stay warm!

Love the 'froggy' day pictures. When we lived on the Oregon coast, where the moss hangs from the trees, 'froggy' days always made me feel like I was in the middle of one of those scary movies!
Sounds like a good day to stay inside and enjoy the warmth.

Thanks Mamalee - I also liked the way they look when you double-click them - just a tangle of branches. So many more than I realized! A bit of surreal art.
-----------------------------
Jackie, I know what you mean - we were down south a couple of years ago, with the trees dripping Spanish moss - I can imagine the effect. Here we just have the naked, twisted branches - still scary though, with a feeling that if you went too far you could get lost in that fog.

Great photography. Surreal art is the word!! I especially loved the first picture. Makes me even want to go out and paint it.

By the way, I have also replied to your question on why nanoparticles pose a health hazard on my blog...

Glad you could share these pictures with us..

this is beautiful stuff!
makes you think how God can make nature so desolate, yet beautiful as well as grand at the same time, doesn't it?

Your pictures captaured all the things youy talked about. I loved your froggy pictures.

Glad you liked the "froggy day" Sunil - that would be cool, if you created a painting based on something like this. I wonder how you would portray the haziness.

Thanks also for the nano-hazard explanation. I couldn't figure out what it was about the particles that was so poisonous. So it's not the make-up of the particles - it's the size . . . interesting!

Welcome and thanks for stopping by, BJ! Glad you enjoyed the photos.

I put you on my blogroll as "The JOKES Blog" - would you prefer "The Bizarre Jokester (wow!)"? I am so enjoying your jokes! Nothing like starting the day off with a laugh :-)

Glad you liked them Dr. John! Like I always say - better "frog" than snow ;-)

A good name it conjures up lots of images......frost fog, mist, drizzle, light rain. A name for many features.

The fog & mist
has an enchantment all its own
I love to walk thru it
like fine watery shower

Love to see it in France, love to see it in the North of Spain, love to see it in the Marsh, love to see it here, there and everywhere.

But one thing I'm not keen to do, is to drive in thick fog like pea soup. Even with fog likes on dark nights when you can see no more than a few feet ahead and cannbot drive at 20MPH and no more

Oh love the photos sunflower and love foggy days too. Thank you. There was thick freezing fog here a week or so ago and I just had to go for a walk acros the fields in it. As you say; mysterious, magical, other-worldy and eerie all at the same time, and *froggy* is so much fun!

Nice presentation of a "froggy day".
When we were in Texas, some locals said that these types of days were a "nice day for a hangin". I've always remembered that when it is that type of day.
Nice blog, by the way.

Dave - it was fun - they thought we were saying froggy when we were actually saying "foggy." Perhaps the influence of Kermit the Frog from Sesame Street (or is that strictly a US show?)
--------------------------------
Quasar, even without a car, I feel like I could easily get lost in it. Strange to be walking through a cloud.
--------------------------------
Sandy, I was thinking of you, when I took these. So many of your photos are wonderfully ethereal. Fortunately it was not freezing when I took these. Today was bright and sunny - but definitely freezing! I think I liked the froggy day better, LOL.
---------------------------------
Marion, welcome back and thank you. You are right, it was hushed. Almost like the earth was covered with a blanket that muffled all sound. The usual woodland creatures were nowhere to be seen.

Howdy, Goatman, we must have been typing at the same time here - just missed your comment when I posted mine. Welcome and thanks - it's not much but it's "home" and I've made some wonderful blogger friends on the way.

"Nice weather for a hangin" huh? I think they could be right - it's perfect weather if you want to hide something.

Thanks again for the visit, hope to see you again.

These photos are gorgeous, Sunflower! Fog like this always reminds me of Doris Day walking through the foggy streets in "Midnight Lace"--VERY scary!

Sunflower Optimism said...

Glad you liked them Velvet! Never saw "Midnight Lace" - will have to add it to our Blockbuster Online list. We got rid of all but basic cable, but now we get to watch all sorts of great old movies with the Blockbuster membership.

I love these kinds of days. The fog makes everything look otherworldly and insubstantial enough to blow away. Great pictures!

There is a things about fog that pulls one in at the same time it cuts off as tall endless wall you described so well.
It has such a determined and silent boundary....

Love froggy days for all you said.

Lova nad blessing to yous

Sunflower,
I love your pictures of a "froggy day". The fog, is a wonderus place. It can be fun to get lost in the fog, lost in your thoughts!

Sunflower Optimism said...

So true, Kat - nothing looks real, in the frog - er, I mean fog, LOL.
------------------------------

I agree Angeldust - in the fog all you can be sure of is yourself. Sorry, I know I owe you a response - I haven't forgotten!
------------------------------

Glad you liked, Janet - how does Spot like walks in the fog? Does it spook him?
------------------------------

Mark, I'm not so sure I would want to get lost in the fog - but in my own thoughts, certainly!

Like the pictures. I have a story about our trip in Scotland in the fog. We were completely lost had to open door to see side of road to keep on it. Suddenly many lights appeared and someway we got back to our motel. Could not find that area with all the lights again. Very spooky

Sunflower, Loved your "froggy" pics. Here in the mountains, we can often see fog below us... very odd feeling.

I love "Froggy Day" - such a great phrase. Beautiful pictures!

Sunflower Optimism said...

Betty - that must have been so scary. I can't imagine the fog being so thick that you had to open the door to see to drive. Thank God for those lights that led you back to the motel!
-------------------------------
Mamalee - so I see. Thanks. I think. LOL
-------------------------------
CH - so you're flying above the clouds? That must be strange, not being able to see what is below!
-------------------------------
Thanks Rev. Kate - my kids coined it, LOL. Fog is intense and conjures up a lot - I still prefer a bright, sunny day with lots of color!
